Corduroy Stitch is a needlepoint stitch I find myself using time and time again. If you are looking for a full coverage background stitch- this is a great one to try.
Watch our video below to see how it's done.
Corduroy Stitch gets its name from the resemblance to the fabric- it looks just like Corduroy Stripes. This is one of my favorite stitches because it is so versatile. The wider columns can be enlarged on a bigger canvas to over three stitches on the diagonal, or done as seen here, over two.
Rotate the stitch 90 degrees, and it can be used horizontally too! You can work this stitch starting with either the wide or single rows.
Trust me when I say, this stitch looks good just about anywhere! And it’s a great jumping in stitch if you’re ready to try out decorative needlepoint stitches.
